Residential Log Cabins or Not?

residential log cabins, log cabins to live it, residential timber frame

residential timber frame buildings, residential log cabins

Today’s Blog is about residential cabins and what is a residential and what is not.

What I am going to do is refer this as Mrs. X and her problems with company Y.

Mrs. X bought what she thought was a Residential Log Cabin and handed over a substantial amount of money.

Before I begin this awful factual story, I must say at the off set, that I am deeply displeased with this kind of behavior, and this is why we need in this industry a governmental body who is responsible to check substandard and dangerous buildings being sold by mass producers who are endangering life and are without doubt just profiteering from the public but more from elderly pensioners who sadly put their trust in rather dodgy back street, ex bankrupt companies!

So Mrs. X bought what she thought was a residential cabin, she paid for the so called residential cabin, also she paid for a base and the assembly of this cabin.

Now the most critical part of the build is obviously the base, because if the base is off only mm the whole cabin is in jeopardy from that moment on, if you have a base which has been made badly the cabin is going to lean all different directions the walls will not marry up and the roof will twist, this is fact. And eventually the cabin will leak and the cabin will fall apart.

So regardless, of how good the cabin is, or is not, if the base is wrong, it’s going to be a disaster from the first laid log!

I know you can all guess what I am going to say, yes sadly, her base was off not just few mm out of sink, but many cm’s off and the cabin is a complete and utter disaster. Windows and doors were not residential which she was promised, the roof collapsed and the walls separated. it was a 44mm x 44mm massed produced pile of crap to be honest, which Cost Mrs.X 40,000.

Now a lot of good companies would have apologized profusely and gone back and fixed the cabin, making sure Mrs.X was a satisfied customer.

Sadly Mrs.X had picked one of the worst cabin companies in the land, and company Y decided it was better to go bankrupt then to pay Mrs.X, or fix the building.

Mrs.X then wrote blogs, and went to her lawyer, but by then the company had filed for bankruptcy and Mrs.X lost all her money!

So the motto of this awful story is that when you think about buying a residential log cabin, think twice and find out as much about the company as possible, Google them, really look into whom you are giving your money to.

Do not buy any residential buildings from a massed producer of log cabins, they are always substandard and not fit for purpose.

Residential cabins to live in should not be fitted with garden type windows and doors, they should always be residential quality with certification. If you see any company saying that windows and doors are residential quality, ask them to prove they are offering certified windows and doors, they must be certified by BM Trada, or CE, ask to see the certificate.

Also, ask them to prove that their so-called residential log cabins meet building regulations for wherever you are. It’s quite easy to ask and if they say yes, get it on paper. So when the building inspector comes round and condemns the building you have the company by the balls! Also check on the web to see how much the company is worth.

The moral of the story is this, most log cabin companies are crooks, sadly, and there is only a handful that can actually deliver what they promise, so be careful.

We check all our dealers, we do not manufacture bulk and our windows and doors are certified residential quality, plus we are the only company in the UK that assess our dealers yearly and if they do not come up to scratch, we ask them to leave the group.

We are not looking for mass dealership members, we are looking for the best dealers, who offer the best service, who have the best fitting teams, who have experience and know their stuff!

Park Homes and Timber Frame Holiday Lodges

Quality Holiday Lodges

Park Homes by Logcabins.lv

Over many, many Years Domestic type Park Homes, Caravans, Mobile Units Holiday Lodges have changed very little; sadly, they are still manufactured to a specification that is quite honestly laughable, and can deprecate as much as £7.500 a year!

When looking to purchase a Park Home, or a Holiday Home, maybe a Mobile Home or a holiday Lodge to put on your farm, or free hold, you need to think twice before purchasing anything that is built- manufactured to the BS3632 – 2005.

What is almost criminal is the way that these units are sold, the word Home is used too frequently in sales material of companies who sell these inadequate piles of garbage. They are not a home from home, your house increases in value, your Park Home built under the BS 3632 does not.

Structural Timbers is another word used a lot in their sales material. Yet, any mention of what graded material is used in the manufacturing is missing from their literature!

In addition, the sentence, We will Build your Dreams, should be replaced with, we will fleece you for everything you have and more!

Your Park Home should be an investment, it should be your Home, and there is no law that states your Park Home cannot be manufactured to the UK building regulations. The only reason why they don’t is profit!

So why do companies that manufacture park homes use chipboard, plywood, and PVCu windows and door? Why is the unit build quality so bad!

Its quite simple really, they want repeat business, so they manufacture absolute garbage that lasts 10 years and then needs replacing.

I know many companies will refute this, but it’s so simple to find the truth on value of second hand Park Homes, its called ebay!

We searched and noticed that at least 99.9% of park homes loose the value of 80% of their worth in the first 7-9 years!

A quality long lasting park home – lodge needs the ingredients of quality timber, quality insulation, built by a skilled workforce that manufactures not just park homes but houses, hotels, schools and all manner of other type timber constructions.

And what materials you use in the process of the build is so incredibly important.

The UK has a shortage of timber, most forests have long gone, and the UK imports nearly 87% of all its timber from abroad! This means that after the timber has been delivered to the Park Home manufactures based in the UK. It’s costly and normally the grade is not just below par, its awful, and expensive, compared to what LogCabins.LV use.

C24 graded FSC 45m x 195m timber frame work (stud work) in the UK is near on impossible to find, also graded 45m x 145m graded timber also is very hard to find, as most companies use in the Park Home industry 73mm x 36mm frame work, stud work! Which is half of what should be used to give the Park Home strength and longevity.

Also there are many types of insulation, because every Park Home-Mobile Home- Holiday Lodge from logcabins.lv is in reality a bespoke, we look at your budget and our full time architects will give you the best specification to meet your budget.

Below is a normal specification for our Park Homes, Holiday Lodges. This specification is way past anything on offer in the UK. All timber is graded, C24.

Residential Timber Frame Buildings

Log cabins LV is with out doubt the number one in cabin designing on the Internet at present. We can boast over 4000 unique designs that you are also able to bespoke to your own requirements.

Logcabins.lv is the only company that offers all the different build types, be it Engineered Glulam Log Cabins, Solid Wood Log Cabins, Timber Frame Highly Insulated Cabins- Buildings- Norwegian Hand Made Log Cabins.Camping Pods and much more.

Over the years the types of timber which cabins are manufactured from has changed drastically, as more and more customers are looking for a cabin to last the test of time, but still wanting the Log aesthetic, and as we have the largest range of Engineered Glulam Log Cabins on the internet, we have found the extra price is rewarded with a 3 times longer life span to that of solid timber log cabins.

So, what’s New for 2015 for logcabins.lv?

Well! We have decided to tackle head on the Park Home Market.

Park Mobile Homes are renown to cost the earth, but when sold second hand, the value drops quicker than a meteorite, and the impact hurts your pocket dramatically.

The UK Government has as we see it; let the public down, in so far as allowing the park Home Manufacturers to build their wares to the BS 3632 specification, which is feathering only one side of the nest. If you are thinking of leaving the grandkids money, by purchasing a Park Home, which is manufactured under the BS 3632 act, you can say good bye to its investment, as an investment.

The BS 3632 Specification goes something like this:

Stable and Structurally Sound. (Most garden sheds Are!)

Weather Resistant. (Again, the same as a shed)

Adequate Ventilation, Drainage, Sanitation. ( Most dog kennels have these attributes)

Adequate means of escape.(A shed with a window)

Meet Satisfactory Thermal and sound insulation criteria.(Insulated shed)

If you were to pay £74 and download the BS 3632, you would be surprised at how this act is really designed to furnish the manufacturer pocket and empty your bank account.

Any building that is manufactured to this build spec, is in our option, no better than a slightly insulated shed!

In addition! Any dwelling built to this specification, will not return your investment!

When you purchased your first home, your house was built to high standards, Building Regs, Structural Calculations, thermal properties, site surveyors certificated, etc, and was equipped with residential windows and doors, and cost from 125.000 to 350.000. You knew that it would increase in value over the years, so you knew that your home was a great place to invest your hard earned money. Good investment!

Our thoughts are, shouldn’t a Park Homes offer these financial qualities also?

Why should you sell your Bungalow-House, and invest into a Park Home that will loose its value hand over fist?

BS3632 Park Homes sell from £100.000 to £250.000, they are equipped with amazing looking Kitchens and Bathrooms, fantastic carpets etc, but that’s high gloss on a cheap poorly made car!

Our Aim is to bring to market a Fully Functional Passive Park Home that exceeds building regulations, structural Calculations, and is way into the future come thermal properties, and will cost less than a conventional Park Home. We will not be cutting back on our timber frame work, as it will be all graded C24, King Span, Siberian Larch, and top of the range appliances, plus we will be offering Triple glazing as standard, and the windows and doors will not be manufactured from plastic!

We at logcabins.lv are incredibly excited about this, as we will be the first to offer the Park Home market with our UK partners the best ever manufactured Park Home!

With a specification that does not just exceed what is currently on offer, it makes Park Homes look like glorified sheds, which is exactly what they are!

Look out soon for our Grand Showing of our New Residential Timber Frame Park Home!
